What is Q Media Center (Q)?

Q Media Center (Q) is open standards based very secure high quality communication and collaboration application software that uses innovative peer to peer technology with personal softswich provided by Damaka.

 

Why Q?

It's very secure, addresses privacy issues better than anyone in the market today. Because of direct connection over peer-to-peer technology it provides superior voice and video quality, and enables real time collaboration like content, application and desktop sharing with IPTV and other innovative and fun features.

 

How does Q application work?

You need to download the Q application from the website, create a Q ID and add contacts that you would like to communicate with. Once your contacts are online, you can start to communicate with them.

 

How do I get Q application?

You need to visit QMC IPMedia website's download page http://ipmedia.fi/qmc/en/download/ and click download now button once you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions.

 

Is Q application secure?

Yes. Because of innovative personal softswitching technology all communication is directly connected between parties and end-to-end encrypted including SIP signaling.

 

Is Q application free?

For non-commercial use, basic Q Free application is free. Q Pro with multi-party multi-media features and rich sharing and streaming functionalities is having a small subscription charge.

 

What platforms / terminals are supported?

Currently, PC with Windows 2000 and XP. Windows Vista and Mobile Terminal Platform will be supported soon.

 

Is Q File Transfer secure?

Q File Transfer is very secure and reliable because of peer-to-peer connection, end-to-end encryption and virus scan. There is no limitation on the file type or size. You can send any sort of file, including pictures, videos, music, documents etc.

 

What protocol Q application uses?

SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), which is a very popular standards (IETF) protocol for the IP based communications.

 

What is SIP?

SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol. SIP is an Internet proposed standard documented in RFC 3261 for setting up, controlling and tearing down sessions in the Internet. Sessions include, but are not limited to, Internet telephone calls and multimedia conferences. SIP is also used for instant messaging and presence.

 

Does Q provide softswitching capabilities?

What is a Softswitch?

Softswitch (software switch) is a generic term for any open application program interface (API) software used to bridge a public switched telephone network (PSTN) and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) by separating the call control functions of a phone call from the media gateway (transport layer).
A softswitch provides call routing/call state functions and controls connectivity within IP networks and between IP and the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

 

If I don't have a headset or microphone/speakers, will I be able to use Q application?

Yes. You should be able to IM or text chat with your contacts, and use some of the collaboration features without voice & video features. We do recommend headset or other isolated microphone / speaker combination used for good quality voice & sound connection, and a web camera with reasonable video quality and light sensitivity for video calls.
